A2O MAY is a five-member Chinese girl group that made its debut under A2O Entertainment on December 20, 2024. They launched their careers with a rendition of the classic hit “MIROTIC” by TVXQ! titled “Under my Skin (A2O).” The members, CHENYU, SHIJIE, QUCHANG, MICHIE, and KAT, have quickly become a force to be reckoned with in the music industry. Here are seven things you should know about them.

The A2O Way

The group consists of five members: MICHE, the leader; KAT, the rapper; SHIJIE, the main singer; QUCHANG, who raps and sings; and CHENYU, who sings and dances. Although they may be new as a group, they are quickly gaining recognition in the music industry. Before debuting, all five trained at A2O Entertainment as part of a beginner team called A2O Rookies. During training, they were placed into different groups based on age and skill. Their group, called HTG (High Teen Girls), was for sixteen and older female trainees who were ready to take the next step and debut.

With members being from all over the world, Hawaii, Shanghai, and Jiangsu, the members were brought together by none other than Soo Man LEE, founder of some of the biggest K-pop stars and now C-pop prodigies. On October 25, 2024, the trainee team was publicly revealed through a video on social media platforms. On December 20, 2024, the group was announced to be A2O MAY, bringing their different personalities and talents to a group that would touch every part of the world. The members are between the ages of 16 and 19, with Chenyu being the youngest and Miche and Kat being the oldest.

The fifth of the month of the year

A group as magnetic and captivating, the group was formed with an idea starting the fifth of the month. Drawing from the Chinese character 美 (měi), meaning “beauty,” and the word May, which symbolizes hope, “A2O MAY” blends both meanings. Representing beauty and talent, and, like the month itself, a sense of blossoming into the world through dynamic and powerful music. Unfolding the next era of entertainment, A2O MAY is the leading group in the Zalpha Pop genre, blending “Gen Z” and “Gen Alpha” to create a fresh sound that defines the new generation of music groups.

In our last conversation with the group, A2O MAY told EnVi that “For us, Zalpha Pop represents an open-ended and creative state.” Miche added, “It’s not just a mix of styles, but a form of free expression. Its ‘newness’ isn’t only in the sounds and rhythms, but also in how we use the stage and our voices to show the complex yet charming sides of youth.”

This genre connects with audiences everywhere, reaching across ages and generations. Whether you’re 10 or 100, A2O MAY is meant for everyone.

Aside from her artistic talents, she enjoys drawing and playing sports. Both twins trained in Shanghai and debuted together as part of the final lineup, now traveling the world side by side.

SHIJIE

Holds the distinction of being the first trainee recruited under the A2O Rookie Program. She witnessed the group forming from the very beginning and eventually debuted as the center of A2O MAY. At 18 years old, she is the third oldest and contributes her skills in dancing, rapping, and singing. Chart Takeover

Debuting with a pre-single release of the remastered version of Under My Skin (A2O) the girl group was set for greatness from the very start. From becoming the first Chinese girl group to debut on the U.S. Top 40 Singles Chart to being the first Chinese group to perform at the iHeartRadio Wango Tango festival, the group has seen nothing but success. Their official debut single, “BOSS” also made its way onto the U.S. Top 40 Singles Chart, marking their second successful release.

Their second release was “B.B.B (Bigger Badder Better) [feat. A2O LTG]” collaborating with the rookie group LTG (Low Teen Girls) from the A2O Entertainment group. This release set launch for their new EP, PAPARAZZI ARRIVE, with 14 new tracks including the Chinese, English, and Spanish versions of “B.B.B,” “BOSS,” and “Under My Skin (A2O).” The album also includes unit songs like “SWEAT” by MICHE and KAT, and “MELODY” by CHENYU, SHIJIE, and QUCHANG. The EP marked the group’s comeback to the American charts, being Top 40 in the U.S Media Base Airplay and being number three in China QQ Music Hot Songs chart and New Songs charts. The group told EnVi last time we met, “This EP is unfazed, unstoppable, and unchained. We also tried new outfits and concepts, so please keep your eyes on us!”

“MAYnia Arrive”

With a new concept and talent in one group, a powerful fandom needs to be behind the A2O MAY members. Known as “MAYnia,” the fandom was created with the intention of putting together May and mania, ultimately sharing the bond of both the members and their fans. Always looking for new ways to connect with their fanbase, the group held a contest for a lucky “MAYnia” to design the official fandom logo.

Announcing their first fan meeting, the group met their fanbase for the first time in Shanghai, China, in November 2024 at the 862 Fashion Art Center. Featuring a Q&A session and performances of their top hits, the event created precious memories as the members designed bandanas and shared unreleased videos and photos. Staying true to their fans, the group continues to look for new ways to connect with them and new places to visit, too!

A New Generation of “MAYnia”

As the leading group of the new Zalpha Pop genre, the members are also pioneers in creating innovative ways to connect with their fans. To stay connected with supporters worldwide, A2O Entertainment collaborated with an AI company to develop an app called Blooming Talk. The app offers exclusive content available only on the platform and functions similarly to Bubble, allowing fans to choose a member and receive their real messages. In partnership with the AI company Mindlogic, Blooming Talk also lets fans have interactive conversations that feel almost like talking to the members on a call.

Beyond the app, the group engages with fans through their YouTube series Zalpha Life on the official A2O Entertainment channel. There, the members share behind-the-scenes moments from filming music videos, recording sessions, and preparing new songs. They also bring fans along on their travels — whether they’re heading to practice rooms, exploring new cities, or sharing their thoughts before stepping on stage.

A Dream of the Future

As the group continues achieving new milestones and successes, they plan to release more music and potentially launch a new A2O show. The members have shared their desire to keep performing on major stages around the world, meeting more “MAYnias,” and sharing the spotlight with artists they admire. Some members look up to artists such as Taylor Swift, Tinashe, and Tate McRae and have even received advice from Doja Cat. With guidance and constant support throughout their first active year, the group looks toward a future filled with diverse languages, a signature sound, and the solid foundation of what a successful global music group can be.

Bringing warmth and embodying the essence of May, A2O MAY returned to New York on December 12th as part of the lineup for the Z100 Jingle Ball All Access Lounge. Performing their top hits such as BOSS, B.B.B (Bigger, Badder, Better) “PAPARAZZI ARRIVE,” and “Under My Skin.” The group made a long-lasting impact on those who know them or have just discovered them; nonetheless, we are excited to see what 2026 has in store for them.
