KISS OF LIFE, Mark Tuan – โ€œSUPERPOWERโ€

Following the the completion of VALORANT Champions Tour Pacificโ€™s two stages on July 21, Riot Games tapped Natty and Julie of KISS OF LIFE and Mark Tuan for the VALORANT Champions 2024 anthem โ€œSUPERPOWER.โ€ Carrying a heavy kick, deep bass and reverbing horns, the electro-pop track exhibits a harmonic blend between rap and singing verses. โ€œSUPERPOWERโ€ touts perseverance and fortitude, expressed through the addicting chorus: โ€œIf I never leap, Iโ€™ll never fly / Bleed or sacrifice / Fight until the final hour / Pain is my superpower.โ€ Beyond words of encouragement, the song also cleverly blends game terminology, giving its uplifting concept an original twist.

The animated music video pays homage to the competitive FPS game and professional teams, referencing in-game content and tournament moments. VALORANT players may note beloved in-game maps, Valorant agents, and in-game abilities. Mabel – โ€œFemale Intuitionโ€

Ever found a womanโ€™s instinct to be uncanny? Thatโ€™s female intuition, which Mabel called a superpower in the caption of an Instagram post teasing her new single. She doubled down on this claim in the songโ€™s lyrics: โ€œGot a kinda superpower and it’s runnin’ through my veins.โ€ She senses something is wrong with her lover, who doesn’t seem to be fully present. โ€œIt’s got my senses tinglin’ (Ah) / Tells me when something’s missin’.โ€

Mabelโ€™s rich vocals interrogate her partner, rising above the trackโ€™s lowkey instrumental. With synth, simple percussion, and string loops, the songโ€™s composition builds anticipation. For the guilty partner, the strings may induce dread and the feeling of being cornered by the rising melody. For other women, it sparks a sense of empowerment, especially in the sampled narration. The song eventually slows, featuring anecdotes of other women, including Mabelโ€™s mother Neneh. Whether youโ€™re a woman or not, โ€œFemale Intuitionโ€ is sure to make you feel an adrenaline rush.

Coming back undefeated to make another statement, global phenomenon XG say โ€œSOMETHING AINโ€™T RIGHTโ€ in their most recent relationship. Pulled from the groupโ€™s upcoming second mini album, slated for release on November 8, the pre-release single โ€œSOMETHING AINโ€™T RIGHTโ€ shifts from their signature R&B, hip-hop flow to the dancefloor with a house music-driven track. Dripping in garage rhythms and thumping laser-bass, the retro-electro song is an addictive dance arrangement thatโ€™ll have listeners hypnotized and dancing to the bouncy beat. The song introduces a catchy refrain and instrumental hooking build-up, crediting its club-like soundscape to the techno sound of the 1990s and 2000s. With a memorable chorus (โ€œSomething ain’t right / You’ve been acting funny lately / You ain’t gotta lie / Got me out here looking crazy / What you tryna hide? / Baby, I can’t take it, you can’t fake it / Something ain’t right / I know something ain’t rightโ€), XG present another timeless groove. NIKI – โ€œTsunamiโ€

If the sweet, overwhelming whoosh of falling uncontrollably were a song, it would be Indonesian artist NIKIโ€™s warm single โ€œTsunami.โ€ Purposely served for listeners in their lover girl era, โ€œTsunamiโ€ is a healing ode to moving away from a past relationship and welcoming love once more with open arms and a recovered heart. Sibling to emotive ballads โ€œBackburnerโ€ and โ€œOceans and Engines,โ€ the song is all about romance. The stirring single captures the rush of falling in love as she personifies the act of loving as a natural disaster. NIKI depicts the spiral of emotions as the unprecedented actions of the weather โ€” terrifying and unstoppable. Giving off a folk-core pop aesthetic, the track displays a gentle arrangement of keys and guitar accompanied by a haunting bassline.

NIKI self-directed the music video, where she is seen picking seashells and happily running through small waves and vast sand on the beach. โ€œTsunamiโ€ stands as the eighth track from her upcoming album Buzz, which is set to release on August 9. NIKI will embark on her Buzz World Tour 2024โ€“2025 starting September 5 in North America.
