On May 11, Gucci announced British-Indian actress, Alia Bhatt as its newest ambassador. Well-known for her work in films such as Darlings (2022) and Brahmāstra (2022), the star makes history as the Italian house’s first Indian global ambassador.

Gucci x Alia Bhatt

For her debut as an official brand representative, Alia Bhatt was photographed in a couple of Gucci-approved looks. Photographed by Mark Seliger, the actress modeled the Gucci Bamboo 1947 bag in a taupe pinstripe suit jacket and matching loose trousers. The shot emanated mature elegance, with statement jewelry that hinted at Gucci’s boldest side.

Bhatt’s relationship with Gucci started as an informal, personal style preference. The star has been regularly spotted wearing Gucci pieces in her off-screen life  — in fact, items from the Italian label were often featured as part of her pregnancy wardrobe in 2022.

The collaboration between Bhatt and Gucci welcomes a new era for the brand that has recently been strengthening its links to Asian stars. It also comes at a time the world of luxury is turning its eyes to South Asia and, in particular, to India.

Regarding her appointment, the actress commented, “I’m honored to represent the house of Gucci not only in India but at a global stage. Gucci’s legacy has always inspired and intrigued me and I’m looking forward to the many sartorial milestones we create together.”

With this new partnership, Bhatt joins a powerhouse team of celebrity Gucci ambassadors that include, among others, Chinese actor Xiao Zhan, South Korean stars Lee Jung Jae, Shin Min Ah, and IU, as well as K-pop idols Kai and Hanni of NewJeans.

Upcoming for Gucci: Cruise 2024

Gucci is scheduled to showcase its Cruise 2024 collection at the Gyeongbokgung Palace, in Seoul, on May 16. As per reports, Bhatt will make her first appearance as the brand’s newly appointed ambassador at the event.

Gucci last announced a runway show in South Korea’s capital in November 2022 to present its Cruise 2023 collection, “Gucci Cosmogonie.” However, the show was ultimately canceled.

Now, Gucci is set to reprise its original plans, taking its show to one of Asia’s most important fashion hubs. With the Gucci family rapidly expanding, fashion enthusiasts can look forward to what is set to be a star-studded event.
