On December 3, ATEEZ shocked their fans with the release of the “Turbulence” music video. The music video was dropped one week before the release of the final album of their FEVER series, ZERO : FEVER EPILOGUE.

A Shocking Release

To say the release shocked everyone is an understatement. Previously, the group had just released their comeback schedule on November 27, with some activities left a mystery. It wasn’t until the music video’s teaser poster dropped four days later that fans noticed the music video was set to release on December 3. ATINY, the group’s fandom, were not expecting this so soon, to say the least.

Later on December 2, the official teaser dropped, solidifying the early release of the music video.

Passion Young Fever

On December 3, the emotional “Turbulence” music video finally made its debut. It showcased all the feelings ATEEZ had been expressing throughout their FEVER series. The eagerly anticipated video amassed over 2.5 million views in just six hours.

The music video opens with the same chords heard at the end of the “Deja Vu” music video, with lead dancer, Yeosang, sitting at a desk alone with a paper plane. Then, the video progresses with these somber shots of the members as they sing emotionally against the chords of a guitar.

Arguably, the song culminates the end of the FEVER series for ATEEZ. Throughout the series, the boys sing about the various aspects of growing up. With “Turbulence,” ATEEZ brings all those feelings into one as the song eventually swells into a full-blown rock-like ballad. The members are alone in all the shots, singing about the pain of growing up. Each frame represents the unknown future and the chaos of youth and insecurity.

As the group’s name suggests, the “Turbulence” music video sums up what it feels like to be a teenager that has been thrust into adulthood. The lyrics perfectly express the desperate feeling of wanting to be heard. Main vocalist Jongho cries out: “Is anyone listening? Can someone just embrace me?”

Overall, the music video expertly showcased the whirlwind of emotions that come with growing up with its dark colors, solo shots, and cold atmosphere.
