Smashing music records is not enough for BLACKPINK’s member Rosé. The Australian-born star has amassed impressive feats in fashion and is about to set yet another milestone by walking the legendary stairs of the MET at the Costume Institute Gala.

Few fashion events command as much anticipation and mediatic attention as the Costume Institute Gala —better known as the MET Gala. Considered to be the biggest fashion event of the year, the fundraiser will take place on September 13th. Amid strict sanitary restrictions and a mandatory mask dress code, celebrities and industry bigwigs will be walking the red carpet. Other than a confirmed list of co-chairs that includes Billie Eilish and Naomi Osaka, BLACKPINK’s Rosé will join the star-studded occasion.

The  MET Gala

Dubbed “the Oscars of fashion,” the MET Gala is an annual celebration organized by the Costume institute of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. It reunites the most prominent figures of fashion and showbiz to raise funds and commemorate the opening of the annual fashion exhibitions at the Costume Institute. This year, the event is centered around American fashion and the invitations listed “American Independence” as the dress code. With the theme open to interpretations, people keep speculating about what the stars will wear to the gala. Nevertheless, expectations are high for the gala’s return—the event was canceled in 2020—and the celebrities in attendance.

Rosé Making History

It is a well-known fact that the girls of BLACKPINK are certified fashion mavens. With a long history of accomplishments, the foursome are recognized for their affiliation to legacy fashion houses. In Rosé’s case, her appointment as the brand ambassador of Tiffany & Co, Saint Laurent and her close friendship with Anthony Vaccarello have proved her status as a modern-day muse.

People, however, were still shocked when pictures of Rosé leaving Saint Laurent’s studio in New York surfaced only a day prior to the Costume Institute Gala. After speculations about the motive of her visit—a fitting, perhaps—the general consensus was that the star will be one of the big names attending the 2021 MET Gala.

Although previous attendants to the event include Super Junior’s Siwon, PSY, Rain, and EXO’s Lay, Rosé will go down in history as the first Korean female idol invited to the Costume Institute Gala.

Fans reactions

As one might expect from a fan legion like Rosé’s, the news instantaneously became a trending topic on social media. Taking to Twitter to express their excitement, fans gushed about Rose’s monumental accolade.

They also theorized about what Rosé would wear to the gala and took their time to recognize the special bond between the idol and the house of Saint Laurent.

Where To Watch

For the first time, the Costume Institute Gala will be broadcast directly from New York. The event will take place on September 13 at 5:30 PM EST and Vogue will be live streaming the arrival of attendants. You can watch Rosé’s historic arrival at the fundraiser here.
