Fenty Beauty and Arcane join forces for a limited edition make-up collection. After speculation about a potential collaboration between Rihanna’s beauty powerhouse and Riot Games’ Netflix original series, Fenty Beauty took to Instagram on October 17 to confirm the news. The collection will launch on the Fenty Beauty and Sephora websites on November 2
The Collection
Inspired by the cast of powerful women that shape the League of Legends-inspired animated series Arcane, the beauty collection boasts a combination of 11 brand-new and fan-favorite items (including the complete collection, which comes with a Fenty Skin Lux Balm). Specifically, the collection draws inspiration from the designs of four of the show’s leading female characters: Jinx, Vi, Mel and Caitlyn.
Five new shades of the cult-favorite Gloss Bomb Universal Lip Luminizer will join the existing line-up: Risky Rulin’, Rogue On Riche$, Rebel Rais’r, Kaboom and Morphic Melt. Four best-selling shades of the Killawatt Highlighter were paired in a new four-pan palette with Arcane-inspired packaging.
Two of the items were specifically inspired by Mel: the Diamond Bomb All-Over Diamond Veil in shade Golden Rul’r and the Glitty Lid Shimmer Liquid Eyeliner in shade Mel’odic Moves. Meanwhile, the Hella Thicc Volumizing Mascara in shade Ka-Bluey takes direction from Jinx’s bold personality and electric-blue hair. Finally, Fenty Beauty is debuting a Chrome Catch’r Shade-Shifting Gel Eyeliner in shade Anoma’lit — an iridescent purple-green multi-chrome effect.
Celebrating the Femme Fatale
Fenty Beauty drew inspiration directly from each character’s makeup looks throughout Arcane’s upcoming second season. Priscilla Ono, Fenty Beauty Global Makeup Artist, worked hand-in-hand with Arcane animation company Fortiche Production to bring the show’s digital makeup to real life. As per a press statement, “Through this partnership, Fenty Beauty is proliferating Rihanna’s founding mission of “Beauty for All,” by continuing to redefine beauty standards and placing a spotlight on the beautiful uniqueness, individuality, and power of each of the characters.”
“We’re always finding ways to continue to expand our Fenty Family and empower people to find their inner strength, confidence, and beauty. I love how we’ve done that with Arcane and Fenty Beauty, merging the virtual with the real, creating beauty looks for powerful women and then translating that into real products that everyone can get their hands on,” Rihanna shared in a press statement.
An Evolving Industry
The Fenty Beauty x Arcane collection is slated to launch on November 2, one week before the November 9 release of Arcane’s second season.
This collaboration reflects the wider beauty and fashion industries’ efforts to connect with non-conventional partners. Luxury labels such as Loewe and Jimmy Choo have tapped into the world of Japanese animation in collections with Spirited Away and Sailor Moon, respectively. Similarly, makeup brands such as Colourpop Cosmetics — and now Fenty Beauty — create themed releases with popular gaming franchises.
Some brands have even turned to digital gaming platforms, such as Roblox, as channels for selling real-world products.
