You’re Losing Me – Taylor Swift

Swifties, are you ready? A pop star that needs little introduction, singer-songwriter Taylor Swift has done it again. Recently named Spotify’s global top artist of 2023, the artist continues to make history. No other artist could have her fans trade their wedding venue and ask their professor to hold their place in the queue for a ticket to her tour. Her tour touched not only her fans, but boosted the economy. Generating approximately $5B in consumer spending, it caused nearly $1,500 in revenue per fan for local businesses in one weekend. The Eras Tour concert film garnered $250M, making it the highest grossing concert film in the U.S behind Michael Jackon’s This Is It

The song was a secret treat to fans during her news-breaking, sold out Eras tour. “You’re Losing Me” had die-hard fans losing it. Many lined up outside MetLife stadium on Thursday morning for its originally announced exclusive release on CDs, only sold at the merchandise lines of her New Jersey stop on 12:30 P.M Friday. The track was then released on her webstore digitally. Finally, it is now released on streaming platforms  accompanied by a “From the Vault” label. The melancholic and delicate song has us romanticizing even the coldest winter nights.

MY HOUSE – Beyoncé

Speaking of powerhouse female soloists, did you hear the news? Beyoncé kicked off the holiday season with a gift of her own, by dropping a new single. 2023 has been quite the year for the stellar pop star. She took the world by storm by receiving the most Grammy wins ever, wrapping up her Renaissance World Tour (which earned more than $579M), and even releasing a film capturing the tour and its production.

“MY HOUSE” is Beyoncé’s latest solo release since her 2022 LP, RENAISSANCE. Kicking off with a sharp drumbeat, powerful brassline, and boisterous chants, the single captures the tenacity held by marching bands — an influence which can also be heard in HOMECOMING: THE LIVE ALBUM. Beyoncé opts for a more articulate, spoken word-like flow that is filled with grit in “MY HOUSE,” and the power behind her statements is carried throughout the song. About halfway through, the track slips into the electronic house genre and offers listeners a sonic shift while also maintaining the up-tempo pace set from the beginning. She closes the song and RENAISSANCE era with the optimistic acapella message, “RENAISSANCE, new revolution / Pick me up even if I fall / Let love heal us all.”

Draw – Taemin

Korean solo artist and SHINee member Taemin enhances the narrative of this heart-fluttering office romance, in webcomic drama No Office Romance! As the webtoon’s second original single, the ballad “Draw” dresses up the artist’s vulnerable vocal tone with the support of melodic piano. Matching the tender emotions of the single’s gentle instrumentals and vocals, the music video showcases heart-warming moments (taken from the webtoon) between comic protagonists Yoonji and Saebom. Inviting listeners to witness the chemistry of the characters, Taemin encapsulates their intimacy as he sings, “You don’t have to think you’re alone anymore / The cold pain, tired wounds and the tears at night / I’ll embrace all of them.”

In a telling of a romance through reunions of the past and hectic turns of events in the present, Korean cartoonist Namsoo and Korean author Dooboo set forth the story of the flowering love between characters Yoonji Oh and Saebom Shin. Meeting her first love after many years, Yoonji faces a dilemma in her heart, as she attempts to navigate a  relationship hindered by workplace rules. You can witness the unraveling of Namsoo and Dooboo’s rom-com in the workplace in No Office Romance! on Naver Webtoon while listening to “Draw” on Spotify and Apple Music!

Truth or Dare – Tyla

Pop’s newest princess Tyla is returning for another hit. The artist had the public enamored with her fusion music, suggestive lyrics, and booty-popping choreography with the viral song “Water.” An instantaneous TikTok trend that had the world grabbing the nearest water bottle, the hashtag #tylawaterchallenge amassed 448.6M views on TikTok in October. Twenty one years old and already with a Grammy nomination under her belt, the rising star is the highest-charting African female solo artist ever on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart.

Now, Tyla is releasing her debut EP titled after her name. “Truth or dare” features Tyla’s signature delicate crooning, and a fusion of afrobeats, R&B, pop, and amapiano. Piano-driven dance beats, combined with Tyla’s airy vocals create an addictive song. “Truth or dare / is it true you care? / Now that you can see the love from everyone,” the vocalist sings to a lover, attempting to rekindle their relationship after her rise to stardom.
