Pop star Lisa and her dance team embodied rockstar spirit for the opening of Victoria’s Secret fashion show. On October 15, the brand made its highly anticipated comeback to the runways after a six-year hiatus. Legacy models, from Kate Moss to Alessandra Ambrosio, walked the runway while global pop icons performed, mingling with the famous Victoria’s Secret Angels. For its big return, the American lingerie brand exclusively featured female performers: Tyla, Cher, and Lisa.

Lisa, accompanied by an army of stylish dancers, opened the show with a bang. Hair and makeup designer J Guerra crafted the dance crew’s beauty look with Danessa Myricks Beauty. The glam consisted of a combination of Y2K beauty trends, including graphic liner, matte skin and metallic chrome pigment. Guerra had one goal. “I wanted the dancers to complement Lisa’s “moto” aesthetic,” he shared.

Below, EnVi breaks down the racer-infused look and how to achieve it.

Motto Glam

According to Guerra, beauty brand Danessa Myricks was the perfect partner brand to create the glam for Lisa’s dance crew. “We absolutely loved using all of these high-performing products, and our collaboration truly embodied Victoria’s Secret’s theme of women’s empowerment—using beauty to support the incredible women we worked on feel confident, strong, and unapologetically themselves on stage,” he explained.

Sculpted Skin

To put the looks together, Guerra started by sculpting the dancers’ base makeup. A generous amount of skincare and mattifying primer prepared the skin for a longer-lasting base, Then, the Vision Cream Cover foundation built a full coverage, demi-matte canvas. Guerra sculpted and highlighted shades across the skin to contour the dancers’ faces, focusing on the cheekbones, jawline, and temples for a defined and lifted look.

As the next step, the makeup team used the Lightwork Freedom VI Freedom Palette to highlight the face and body, bringing in chrome accents on the skin. The palette, which contains 18 highly pigmented shades, delivers rich and vibrant finishes on all skin tones. “The Freedom Palette Lightwork VI gave our makeup team the perfect shades to highlight the skin and body,” said Guerra about the product’s inclusive shade range.

Additionally, Guerra used a handful of Danessa Myricks beauty products, including the Yummy Skin Lift & Flex Hydrating Concealer, Yummy Skin Blurring Balm Powder, Balm Contour, and the Evolution Powders.

Futuristic Eyes

After finishing the complexion, the makeup team added a metallic shine to the dancers’ eyes with Colorfix Metallics, Foils, and Liquid Metals. Guerra chose the metallic eye products to fill the negative space between the graphic liner. He wanted the eye makeup to give off a “futuristic edge.” Although the colors were mixed to flatter each dancer’s skin tone, the glam team used the shades “Platinum” and “Odyssey” the most.

The main focus, however, was creating graphic liner looks with the Colorfix Matte in Blackout. Guerra opted for the waterproof formula for its long-lasting, high-impact color. Each dancer sported bold, graphic winged liner on top of the metallic eyeshadow. On the upper lash line, the eyeliner went up and out towards the temples and back towards the crease. The lower lash line was defined with smoldering black eyeliner for a rockstar-inspired look. Besides the actual opening performance, the eyeliner held up against sweat and movement from two pre-show dress rehearsals. A generous amount of mascara and false lashes topped off the eye look.

Glossy Nude Lips

Guerra selected a glossy ombré lip to balance out the eyes. He created a shiny coating on the lips with the Colorfix Nudes and Glaze. A darker nude shade was used to outline the edges of the lips while a lighter shade filled in the center, creating a seamless ombré. Guerra topped the lipstick with the Color Fix Glaze for the patent shine.

New York City welcomed Victoria’s Secret back onto the big screens of fashion enthusiasts and global fans. As high expectations filled the air, J Guerra’s makeup direction did not disappoint. Reflecting on his creative process, the artist shared, “I wanted to ensure the hair and makeup looks were distinct enough to stand out, yet still cohesive with costumes and the performance overall.” He surely achieved the goal.
