PP Krit Checks in on a Past Love in New Single “What’s Going On”

As Q3 begins to transition into the latter months of the year where things seemingly start to slow down, that’s the complete opposite for Thai multi-hyphenate superstar Krit Amnuaydechkorn, famously known as PP Krit. Expressing a heartfelt and vulnerable chapter in his vocal sound, PP Krit has arrived with his comeback single “What’s Going On,” released on September 4. In a world where memories of an ex or past lover consumes our thoughts with questions and longings of what-ifs, would it be easier to just let them go entirely? To forget? PP holds nothing back in “What’s Going On,” and for his track record of solo concert performances, box-office smashing movie roles, and jaw-dropping Balenciaga runway moments – he never seems to shy away from his musical roots.
What’s Going On?
Differing from his hit tracks like “เสนอตัว (Ooh!)” and “Oopsy Daisy,” “What’s Going On” takes on a more sensual turn sonically, blending low-fi pop and R&B influences. The track’s production is driven by soft piano chords and melodic beats, not only making it a smooth listen but a repeatable track. Showcasing smooth vocals and sugary harmonies, PP sings honestly about his parting from a past lover, reluctant to move on, and constantly questioning how the other person is doing now that they are no longer a part of one another’s life. Carving out intimacy from mundane questions like “Do you still like walking in the rain? / Is there someone to hold you on cold nights / Are you still up late at night, like before?,” PP captures the familiar ache of missing an ex where the urgency of these questions further solidify that he is unable to move on. Unable to move on from their history and moments of connection. Filled to the brim with emotion and sincerity, the chorus of “How’s everything with you / Baby, Baby I just wanna know / What’s going on when we’re apart / How have you been? Someone caring for you / Are you doing okay? Baby, baby I just can’t stop caring” allows a sense of ponder and reflection, where you find yourself on a rainy day doing nothing but daydream.
Produced and lyrics penned by powerhouse producer and singer-songwriter Amp Achariya Dulyapaiboon, who has widely carved a name for herself in Thailand’s music industry with production credits spanning the official soundtrack track “Moonlit Magic” for ข้ามฟ้าเคียงเธอ The Next Prince Series, GEMINI’s “ใกล้เกิน (TOO CLOSE TO HANDLE)” and Blue Pongtiwat’s “ยังฟังเพลงเดิมอยู่ไหม (Same Old Song),” this longtime collaboration comeback with PP comes after their work together on his track “ลังเล” since February 2023. Known for her signature production style, “What’s Going On” ultimately showcases PP’s vocal ability through the choice of a higher key, a key rarely used by PP on his other tracks. Lines like “I must hide how glad I feel / All I can do is say hi / Just as a friend would do” convey his reluctance to let go of their memories together, as he desperately yearns to rewind time between the two.
Trade A Hundred Memories
Set visually in a store where people trade and sell their memories, the track’s accompanying music video begins with the opening shot of a dimly lit room surrounded by clocks and mason jars filled with light, or in this case, memories. A man walks in and hands a jar to the shop assistant where notably the clock (labelled ‘Russ’) strikes and the numbers change from 099 to 100. Russ’ eyes light up and shift, and the clock begins to move again. The camera pans to PP walking in, where the mantra “Step into the Hall Of Dreams where memories remain. Trade a hundred, and longing fades as the clock of your heart begins to tick again” appears on the screen. The clock has now changed from “Russ” to “PP,” and the numbers are back to 099. As Russ walks out, PP seems reluctant, looking at the jar with longing and hesitation. Is he ready to sell his 100th memory in order to move on?
With motifs of light, rain, reflection, and dreams, the viewers are shown flashbacks of PP’s relationship with his ex-partner, portrayed by Thai rising icon and Channel One31 actor Aimm Sanpetch Kunakorn. The flashbacks, such as walking together in the rain and cosy car rides – are conceptually communicated through the twinkles of light, which not only highlight the importance of his memories, but to remind PP that they are simply memories. Merely dreams that are so painstakingly hard to let go of.
As the flashbacks pan back to PP in the store, it is revealed that Aimm also intends to move on by selling his 100th memory with PP. The two embrace and say their goodbyes but the fondness between them remains. Aimm hands his jar to the shop assistant, the number changes from 099 to 100, and his clock begins to tick again. Yet, as the closing image of a card reading “Congratulations! You have moved on” appears, questions are left unanswered as Aimm was only the person between the two shown trading in his jar. The song and music video leave us with an unclear answer as PP ends with the line “Or is it just me, missing you till morning.”
Afterglow
As “What’s Going On” comes on the heels of PP’s recent award as one of Lifestyle Asia Thailand’s ‘Global Icons’ at their LSA50ICONS awards night, excelling the catwalk at Balenciaga’s 54th Couture show for Denma Gvasalia’s final show as creative director, and promoting one of the most successful Thai films this year with The Red Envelope’s “BKPP The Wedding Concert” alongside Bilkin Putthipong Assaratanakul, PP continues to showcase his undeniable creative presence and steadfast ability to remain true to his self expression.
Following his first solo concert “My Pleasure Concert” in Bangkok this past march, PP will continue to kick off his Asia tour at its next stop in Macau, China with “My Pleasure Concert: AFTERGLOW” on November 29-30. And with only three months left remaining of 2025, it looks like PP wants to (and can) do it all.
