French luxury brand Louis Vuitton holds a long legacy of creating style classics. One of the label’s most popular items is the Louis Vuitton Neverfull bag, a piece first introduced in 2007 and designed as a large-capacity tote that can carry anything and everything without losing shape — hence the name. This fall, the iconic bag received a stylish update.
Here’s everything you need to know about the new Neverfull Inside Out bag, the accompanying campaign and how global stars are styling this new classic.
A Storied Bag
But first things first. Why is the Neverfull such a popular bag? Since its launch in 2007, the Louis Vuitton Neverfull tote has remained a coveted item in the luxury bag market. The piece, which merges practicality and sleek design, is the best of both worlds — a luxury item designed for everyday use. Spacious, versatile and fitting for nearly every occasion, the chic Neverfull quickly gained popularity among luxury shoppers and stars alike. With celebrity endorsements from the likes of Reese Witherspoon, Paris Hilton and Hillary Duff, the tote thrived in the 2000s, earning must-have status among luxury consumers.
As a brand essential, throughout the years, the bag has been reimagined for iconic collaborations between Louis Vuitton and artists such as Yayoi Kusama, Stephen Sprouse, Jeff Koons and even Takashi Murakami.
Among fashion insiders, the bag also earned popularity for its fully reversible design and features, which ranged from a stripped lining to side laces that can easily transform the bag, bestowing it with changing appearances. Then, in 2013, Louis Vuitton integrated an additional detachable pouch, adding to the appeal and versatility of the bag.
Neverfull Inside Out
This fall, the Neverfull tote received an upgrade, further exploiting one of its best-keep features — its reversible design. Introduced in September with a campaign starring Louis Vuitton ambassador Sophie Turner, the Neverfull Inside Out bag is a twist on the classic Neverfull. The new version allows the bag to be flipped so the lining is on the exterior. But here’s what differs from the classic Neverfull, the lining options are varied and include the Louis Vuitton stamp-and-striped motif and plain grained leather.
The Neverfull Inside Out comes in two sizes. The MM model (W 31 x H 28 x D 14 cm) features higher storage capacity, but can also be tightened with the side laces to turn it into a hobo bag. Meanwhile, the BB size (W 24 x H 14 x D 9 cm) comes with a zippered pouch and removable strap so it can also be worn as a crossbody bag.
The Campaign
Louis Vuitton’s latest bag launch was accompanied by a campaign lensed by photographer Julien Martinez Leclerc. In the image stills, British actor Sophie Turner poses with an array of Neverfull totes, showcasing the new two-sided designs.
According to data company Launchmetrics, mentions of the Neverfull Inside Out bag generated $16.6 million in Media Impact Value (MIV) between September 19 and October 19 — representing 6% of Louis Vuitton’s online and social coverage during that time frame.
As the bag is a celebrity favorite, it is no surprise Louis Vuitton enlisted A-listers to promote the new release on social media. The list included brand friends and ambassadors such as American actor Chloë Grace Moretz, Filipino fashionista Heart Evangelista, Chinese star Victoria Song, Thai actor Freen, and K-pop stars Hyein and Felix. In fact, as per Launchmetrics, 44% of the total MIV was celebrity-driven. “The top celebrity mentioning the bag was Felix from Stray Kids — his bag placement was worth $1.3M in MIV,” Launchmetrics tells EnVi.
Styling Tips from the Masters
The charm of a timeless and classic bag like the Neverfull is that styling it will never be challenging. Practical, easy to sport and spacious enough to carry all your essentials, the bag is perfect for school, work and even traveling. If you’re opting for a business approach take some cues from Katee Bartlett, who paired the bag with relaxed suiting, or Hailey Eylül Sani, who embodied office siren aesthetics and accessorized her looks with a pair of Bayonetta-style glasses and the Neverfull Inside Out tote with the LV monogram on the exterior.
If your approach is rather casual, by all means, take a look at the likes of Victoria Song, Freen or Hyein and style your bag with zipped-up tops, denim and graphic T-shirts. For those enhancing their fall wardrobe, look no further than Heart Evangelista, Lea Naumann and Felix, who adhering to their respective styles donned cold-weather staples such as long coats and boots, sporting the Neverfull to add a pop of color to their ensembles.
