f5ve – “Sugar Free Venom feat. Kesha”

J-pop quintet, f5ve, is here to deliver recession pop realness with their newest track, “Sugar Free Venom feat. Kesha.” The infectious track is produced by BloodPop®, known for their collaborations with Lady Gaga, Rina Sawayama, and Shygirl among many other hitmakers. “Sugar Free Venom feat. Kesha” is an instant party anthem — a pop song with a catchy whistle and dramatic trap beats. Speaking of party anthems, dance-pop icon Kesha adds her flair with a sensual yet cheeky verse. In tune with f5ve’s online presence full of reference, Kesha even pokes fun at one of her own memes: “Boys, they walking by me / Kesha you kawaii / I’ll be singing on the train.”

From its sonic elements, to even its visual styling, “Sugar Free Venom feat. Kesha” is a love letter to the pop divas of the 2000s. The music video pays homage to numerous female artists of that era — even the members who were once a part of J-pop group E-girls! “Sugar Free Venom feat. Kesha” is the lead single from f5ve’s first album, SEQUENCE 01. With eleven tracks including their previous releases like “Underground” and “Magic Clock,” this kaleidoscopic album has something for every listener!

SAILORR – “BITCHES BREW”

The long-awaited debut album of singer-songwriter SAILORR is here with the lead single “BITCHES BREW.” The album, FROM FLORIDA’S FINEST, jumps between R&B and pop with nothing but SAILORR’s vocals and message throughout. From the moment SAILORR released her first single, “WEATHERED,” in 2023 she’s received a heavy amount of comments about her aesthetic and sound. Rather than letting it get to her, she kept on releasing music, gaining a mass amount of traction along the way with songs like “POOKIE’S REQUIEM” and “W1LL U L13?”

“BITCHES BREW” is what the singer has been holding back this entire time. While SAILORR may not have been responding to comments she’s gotten, she was brewing up a concoction big enough to spite everyone: success. In the music video, SAILORR can be seen surrounded by girls with matching pink, glamourous style, lounging on the beach working, and cooking dolls on the grill (take that as you will). In her final verse, SAILORR sings, “Woah, wallet so fat, and so is my ass / Go touch some grass / ‘Cause you bitches stay mad.” In the end, the talent that is Florida’s finest has taken all the attention she’s received and turned it into her biggest project yet: an eminent debut album.

Rangga Jones – “Love Again”

After a rough breakup, saying his peace, and moving on, Rangga Jones is ready to “Love Again” in the lead single of his new album Everything I’ve Wanted To Say. “Love Again,” the ninth song on his album, presents a full pop sound with an upbeat nature both in lyrics and tempo. The song comes after other tracks like “Infatuated” and “i confess” which set his character up for falling for a girl and telling her how he feels. Now with “Love Again,” the listener sees that she feels the same way about him, and he sets off in his new relationship.

The lyrics of the song reflect Jones’ surprise at stepping into a relationship so soon after the end of his previous one, at a time where he wasn’t looking for love. During the chorus he sings, “I never thought / The day I met you / We’d be more than friends / But everything just fell into place / Guess I’m in love again.” Coming from his personal experience, the song was heavily written and produced by Jones with help from one of his creative partners, Weiwan Seah. With the next and final track on the album being “By My Side,” it looks like taking the leap to “Love Again” was the perfect move for Rangga Jones.

P1HARMONY – “DUH!”

Bringing the ‘90s to the ‘20s, P1HARMONY is back with their new single, “DUH!,” and a mini album by the same name. After completing their world tour earlier this year, the group has returned to the comeback scene after almost eight months. “DUH!” marks a new chapter in the heroes’ stories where they balance being the hero or anti-hero. After expressing their confused feelings in “SAD SONG,” they have come to realize they’re the hottest heroes in the industry. So when people ask who that is looking so good and creating new trending sounds, they can respond “It’s me, DUH!”

The lead single presents a new hip-hop genre for the group as well. Though they have always been at the forefront of rap talent, “DUH!” focuses heavily on a ‘90s hip-hop sound and expands the groups soundscape. The song contains almost no singing and instead has the members rap-singing or fully rapping, something they did a lot at the beginning of their music career, with Keeho and Jiung returning to being sub-rappers. The song may come as a surprise to some listeners, but if it does, you’re welcome to join the fandom, “Coming boldly, late to this party.”

UMI – “HARD TRUTHS (feat. 6lack)”

If you’re looking for UMI’s signature healing and meditative lyrics, you won’t find them here, since this week she’s coming through with the “HARD TRUTHS” alongside 6lack. The track is pure R&B with dark-toned visuals and pops of red as the two singers move in their feels. In the music video, UMI can be seen powerfully flowing through the song adorned in chunky silver jewelry and metallic tones. After the first chorus with UMI singing her side of the story, 6lack takes center stage, wearing complementary tones and singing a parallel tune.

Though the song is easy to simply groove to, the lyrics take on deeper themes. The singers share commentary on the materialism that has overtaken the world: nice house, nice clothes, and expensive partying. During 6lack’s verse, he raps, “The inside, that’s what matters thе most” and commenting two lines later, “You can’t mend the heart with the materials you bought.” Within the three minutes of the song, the duo disassembles the materialistic structure society is being built upon before ending their message with, “But you’re empty inside, are you alive?” This week, UMI and 6lack have completely delivered with not only a track to vibe to but also a heavy observation to consider.

Yerin Baek – “1-4-3”

Yerin Baek is back, but this time, she comes alone. Often seen as the front person of the band The Volunteers, Baek has had a long career in music. With her new single “1-4-3,” Baek is able to present her personality in full bloom with a transparent sweetness and the song even goes as far as being “cute.” Long-time listeners may be used to Baek’s emotional ballads or deep-indie rock genre, but “1-4-3” balances on the line of joyful jazz and perky pop.

Bouncing through the song, Yerin Baek sings about being cool, cute, and ultimately, “Sweet that you think I’m sweet / You’re fun, that you found fun in me,” spinning it back on her respective partner. The song was released alongside another single “Seeking happy in the crowd” that lands in the genre fans may be a bit more used to as it holds a hint of melancholy and a pop-rock melody. Both songs come together on I MET PEEJAY, and may be part of a larger project in the future. Baek expressed her love for her fans on Instagram in a post celebrating the song’s release where she stated, “It’s been 2 years and 4 months since I’ve been active solo.. I’m saying it’s over..” We may be seeing more solo Yerin Baek sooner than we know!

Star2 – “Mamacita”

Star2 is a rapper whose rich discography also comes with a rich history. Star2’s latest project — an EP titled No Place Like Home — conveys his cultural sensitivity and personal identity. Across seven tracks, his Ka-ren heritage, Thai refugee upbringing, and Southern California charm blend together to inspire an array of diverse listeners. The focus track, “Mamacita,” is a song crafted for summer nights full of love and dancing. Above Star2’s signature R&B and hip-hop beats are percussion and strings that create a Latin feel, perfectly in tune with the song’s title. “Mamacita” also features artists Luh Kel and Luii Sodolo who offer up lovestruck verses and vocals. The infectious chorus follows along a playful melody, “Mamacita, know that I need ya / You know you’re a keepa / Someone not a cheat-ah.” The animated music video matches the track’s fun energy, as the three artists are illustrated as characters in pursuit of their love interest.

Jackson Wang & Diljit Dosanjh – “BUCK”

Do you wanna dance? Well, Jackson Wang can show you how to with his new single, “BUCK” featuring Diljit Dosanjh. Drenched with sensuality and brimming with confidence, “BUCK” effortlessly blends together hip-hop, Afrobeat rhythms, and pop-R&B. Jackson’s sultry vocals immediately pull you into his trance with the first lyrics, “So you wanna dance?” Rather than a question, it’s a flirty, tempting challenge you can’t resist taking. The drum beats are crisp, designed with hypnotic repetition to pair with the seductive and confidence-laced lyrics. Jackson isn’t here to talk, instead, he’s here to party. In a low tone, He whispers in the pre-chorus, “I ain’t tryna talk, I’m getting lost in the groove, please.” The same opening question, “So you wanna dance?”, is repeated through the chorus like a mantra, building a deeper sense of sensual tension. Diljit Dosanjh offers his own stylish Punjabi flair, matching Jackson’s energy, rapping about wild nights, attraction, and energy. “BUCK” is the cultural crossover we’ve been waiting for. So get loose and let your body sway to this beat.

Nguyên – “Thật lòng”

Slowing things down, Vietnamese singer-songwriter Nguyên returns with a soul-baring ballad that hits straight into your heart. His newest single, “Thật lòng”, which translates to “Honestly”, is a tender confession filled with soft piano chords and an aching melody. In it, Nguyên confesses to a long-held love and yearns to stand by their side. He sings of the dream of being enough for them, becoming the kind of man worthy of the one who’s held the key to his heart all along. His lyrics sound like a page ripped from his diary. Dripping with sincerity, he asks, almost pleadingly,  “Now what do I have to do to make us a couple?” He then admits, “I sincerely give my heart to you and only you, my love.”

“Thật lòng” captures the ache of a love that’s been patiently blooming in the background, hoping for the courage to finally be spoken aloud. Equal parts bittersweet and comforting, the song is a slow burn for anyone who’s ever loved in the quiet of their bedrooms, holding out the hope that maybe they’ll be loved back just the same.

Maya Kuriel – “Alibi”

The Bonnie and Clyde dynamic takes a modern, digital age twist in soloist Maya Kuriel’s latest single, “Alibi.” The track is a seductive alternative pop song with intense bass that creates a dark atmosphere. “Alibi” plays into the vices of a relationship — as Maya shared in a press release: “This song is for anyone who’s ever chosen love over logic.” The song cinematically plays out, as the moody production is the perfect accompaniment to the bold lyrics. Maya sings in the explosive chorus: “Baby I’m your alibi / So don’t tell them I’m your witness / The crimes we committed / If we go missing, you know why.” As Maya follows up her run from her first 2025 release, “Dead Weight,” she continues to defy the pop landscape with her storytelling and talents.

December Avenue and Morisette – “Ahon”

Original Pilipino Music, OPM, is a genre that has steadily been on the global incline. Two OPM stars, indie pop band December Avenue and singer-songwriter Morisette, joined forces on a long-awaited collaboration. Their collaboration, “Ahon,” is an emotional indie pop ballad that spotlights their talents. Known for her powerful vocals, Morisette added a layer of emotional depth and vocal clarity that further elevated the band’s sound. “Ahon” speaks about a lingering love on the cusp of resurfacing.

December Avenue’s keyboardist, Gelo Cruz, highlighted the lyric, “Muli ring aahon at magbabalik sa’yo,” which translates to “I’ll resurface and return to you.” Beyond the meaning in correspondence to heartbreak and romantic relationships, Cruz relates the lyric to his resilience as a musical artist. “Whenever we get on the stage and hear all the people singing our songs back to us, I’m reminded of why I chose to do music in the first place,” Cruz shared in a press release. “Ahon” speaks to a multitude of people and experiences — which is perhaps why this star-studded collaboration felt so effortless.
