PROXIE’s Sub-Unit KIMGUN Captivates Hearts With Debut Single “Pretty Girl”

T-Pop powerhouse PROXIE are having their moment. Following the recent forming of their VOC unit in collaboration with Korean-Thai record label THEBLACKSEA, the Thai phenomenon reach new heights with their sub-unit introduction KIMGUN — a dynamic duo united by the artistry of members Ratchanon Ruenpech (Gun) and Pannathorn Jirasert (Kim). Released on September 30, under their label bROTHERS MUSIC, their debut single “Pretty Girl” showcases a new side to the group’s evolving sound.
YinYang
As the eldest members of PROXIE, Kim and Gun step into KIMGUN with a mature charisma and artistry that distinguish them from the group’s usual youthful, lighthearted energy. Driven by breaking boundaries and going out of their comfort zones, the sub-unit serves as an avenue to expand on their creative reach and vocal chemistry. After announcing the sub-unit on September 23 with a series of teaser visuals, KIMGUN dropped a release plan of the debut single on PROXIE’s official Instagram — ranging from concept photos, character videos, and the official song title announcement on September 24.
With a carefully curated rollout, the duo signalled their intent to introduce a side to themselves that PROXIE’S Fandom, USER had yet to see.
Within a group of six members that have various characteristics and personalities, KIMGUN explained during their Thai press visits the overarching mood and tone for their sub-unit’s visual aesthetic. Opposites in nature and defined by their individual, contrasting vocal styles — the pair naturally decided to anchor their mature side by comparing themselves to YinYang. On the surface, the two are completely different, yet that beautiful duality becomes the foundation of KIMGUN and “Pretty Girl,” where each strength combines into a clear story of sound.
I Surrender To You ‘Cause You’re My No.1’
Unveiling a new chapter with KIMGUN, “Pretty Girl” blends R&B and Hip-Hop influences with sultry melodies and velvety rap hooks. Refining PROXIE’s signature playfulness and youthful energy into a smoother, more mature sound. The track’s production is driven by a balance of soft and upbeat tempos, making it incredibly catchy and easy to dance along to.
“Pretty Girl” unfolds with a sensual flute melody paired with soft keyboard notes, setting the airy and light tone of the R&B track. As the tempo picks its pace up, the dynamic push-pull of Kim and Gun’s contrasting vocal sounds combine synergetically — Gun’s distinctive, soft, and endearing voice carries into the opening lines “Seems like you’re so used to being spoiled like that / Now you barely listen to me at all,” Kim’s refined and lower-bassed register follows with “Guess I’m too nice so you don’t take me serious / Now you’re pulling moves that got me crazy.” Together, their voices express a narrative of love in its rawest form — a relationship where sulking and tension are bound to surface, yet there’s always a way to surrender where the other person is unable to resist, ultimately leading to giving in to someone they can’t help but love.
The production of “Pretty Girl” is helmed by powerhouse producer MAYOJAMES, known for his work with TIMETHAI and 4EVE. Alongside multi-hyphenate composer GALCHANIE, who has built an incredible track record this year so far, penning the lyrics for tracks like Daou Pittaya’s “White Rabbit,” 4EVE’s “Too Perfect For You,” and her own viral single “Baby Tee.” For their first time collaborating with MAYOJAMES and GALCHANIE, “Pretty Girl” dishes out an evolved dimension to Kim and Gun’s sound — defined by a signature R&B essence, the song is lyrically flirtatious. Lines like “I don’t really mind, cuz you’re my baby” bring in the tenderness at the heart of the track, while the chorus underscores their undeniable push and pull of affection, “Pretty girl no lie you’ve been on my mind / Ain’t even hyping you, but you’re still cute to handle / Even I get upset / But I will let it go / I surrender to you ‘cause you’re my n.o 1.”
Checkmate
That nuance of YinYang ultimately feeds into the “Pretty Girl” music video. Directed by Nqmoh, the video unfolds a chess match — a metaphorical quest to win the heart of a girl. With Kim and Gun embodying the rival Kings of Black and White chess pieces, the stage is set inside a wonderland-like castle with checkered floors. The opening shot lingers on a girl seated at the chess board, where her hands guide the first move for the White King as the camera cuts to Gun, dressed in White. When the move is countered by the Black King, the frame shifts to Kim, clad in Black.

What follows is a playful push-and-pull where each boy takes his turn across the board, their moves lace with fleeting glances and flirtatious tension. Yet the balance shifts as the girl suddenly overturns the board, scattering the pieces and ultimately throwing the game. The closing sequence leaves her walking away as Kim and Gun are left heartbroken. In the end, she was the one who controlled the game all along.
