Carpet Golf – “Human Things”
Singaporean quartet band Carpet Golf made their return after a four-year hiatus with their sophomore album, In Between, Out of Phase. Carpet Golf is an alternative rock band driven by their musical talents, deviation from normalcy, and most importantly, tight-knit camaraderie. Carpet Golf are composed of Nathaniel Soh on guitar and vocals, Daniel Borces on guitar, Spencer Tan on bass, and Jordan Fernandez Khoo on drums. Born out of Singapore’s hardcore scene, Carpet Golf’s sincerity shines through in each of the eight tracks. In Between, Out of Phase is an exploration of one’s mid-twenties, reflecting on bygone personal relationships and internalizing the emotions driven by our youth.
The third track, “Human Things,” draws on frontman Nathaniel’s first encounter with love. The track is described as “tapping into the nostalgia of past relationships […] now viewed through the lens of adulthood.” The song kicks off with Nathaniel’s earnest vocals, paired with a powerful guitar riff. The refrain is a perfect combination of the quartet’s skillset as each of their instruments are on full sonic display, yet are still harmonious together. Once “Human Things” nears its end, a sharp feedback sound prompts a slower shift in tempo until it naturally fades out. In Between, Out of Phase is the perfect album to wrap up your 2024 with, given its emphasis on introspection.
Denise Julia, Jay R – “sweet nothings”
Denise Julia is making her mark as the Philippines’ newest pop and R&B princess. Sweet Nothings (Chapter 2) is the follow-up EP to her 2023 debut, Sweet Nothings (Chapter 1). Denise Julia came bursting onto the scene with her viral 2022 hit, “NVMD,” a song she recorded while still enrolled as a university student. With her wit, sincerity, and talents, she would capture the hearts of listeners all over the world. Denise Julia’s sophomore EP solidifies her as yet another rising musical talent from the Philippines. Though she is 2002-born, Denise Julia taps into a nostalgic, early 2000s R&B sound in this EP.
The EP’s lead single and namesake, “sweet nothings,” embodies the EP’s Y2K vibe. The track is an R&B ballad featuring the “Philippines King of R&B,” Jay R. This collaboration is an R&B match made in heaven. “Sweet nothings” combines the talents of the two leading forces in Filipino R&B across two different decades. In true R&B fashion, “sweet nothings” is romantic and slow in tempo. The chorus repeats, “You give something that I could never have with anybody else / You give something that I would never trade for anybody else.” Denise Julia combines the soulfulness of the early 2000s with a 2020s charm, and Sweet Nothings (Chapter 2) leaves listeners curious as to what else her career has in store.
Melike Şahin – “Sağ Salim”
Turkish singer and songwriter Melike Şahin is back with new album AKKOR, and it’s nothing short of captivating. Melike Şahin’s journey as an artist began in 2017 with her debut singles, “Bi’ fırlatsam” and “Deli Kan.” That same year, she voiced three songs for the soundtrack of Tony Gatlif’s Journey from Greece (Djam) and performed at the Cannes Film Festival. Before her solo career, she was a member of Baba Zula, a prominent Turkish alternative music group, from 2012 to 2018.
This latest album follows her previous single release “Canın Beni Çekti”, a funky pop track also featured on this album. However, our personal favorite off AKKOR is the opening track, “Sağ Salim”, a seductive ballad that’s equal parts heartbreak and triumph, like a dramatic love story with a twist. Infused with seductive melodies, the song delves into the aftermath of heartache, capturing the haunting journey of betrayal, survival, and self-reclamation. Şahin’s lyrics vividly portray the duality of pain and strength — her siren-like voice aching over the turmoil of unhealed wounds while soaring triumphantly above a metaphorical abyss. Lines like “I drowned, I didn’t die, you didn’t help me” strike with piercing honesty, while the refrain of emerging “safe and sound” from darkness offers a bittersweet promise of empowerment.
PSYCHIC FEVER – “TALK TO ME NICE feat. TAMP”
J-pop sextet, PSYCHIC FEVER from EXILE TRIBE, have steadily been making viral waves throughout 2024 with their captivating performances. For their newest single, which marks a powerful return, they are joined by Thai R&B artist and producer, TAMP. PSYCHIC FEVER’s performance-driven intensity paired with TAMP’s unique artistry blend effortlessly. “TALK TO ME NICE feat. TAMP” is the embodiment of passion, with confidence-driven lyricism and strong vocal belts. As described in a press release, “The song expresses a different ‘masculinity’ and ‘power’ from PSYCHIC FEVER’s previous songs, and is filled with their passion and challenging will.”
PSYCHIC FEVER and TAMP acknowledge that with a rise in fame, comes a whole different playing field. The two forces advise others to pay them the respect that they deserve. They sing lines like “Now, you see me rising up make way” and “Step in the scene, yeah we’re on different league.” The accompanying music video is the perfect visualizer, as it begins with PSYCHIC FEVER fiercely delivering their lines into a chained, hanging mic. We later see the group show off their powerful choreography and groove to the beat surrounded by flames that mirror their fiery attitude. TAMP makes an impressive entrance at the bridge as the song crescendos into the punchy and infectious outro. “TALK TO ME NICE feat. TAMP” proves that they are two forces to keep an eye on this upcoming year.

Mahen – “Setelah Kau Pergi”
Indonesian singer Mahen’s “Setelah Kau Pergi” is a bittersweet ballad that’ll hit you right in the feels. The song perfectly captures the emotional chaos of loving someone who walks away, yet somehow, you can’t seem to break free from the grip of that love. Think of it as the ultimate soundtrack for anyone navigating the complex, often contradictory feelings of heartbreak — heartache, longing, and that deep, frustrating pull of “Why can’t I quit you?” The lyrics dig deep into the internal conflict of wanting to move on, yet feeling like life just wouldn’t be the same without them.
Mahen’s raw, soulful voice amplifies the ache, drawing listeners into a powerful emotional tug-of-war between love and loss. Each piano note feels like it was plucked straight from the heart, making this track feel like the soundtrack to every painful moment of heartbreak you’ve ever known. There’s something hauntingly comforting about Mahen’s vulnerability; it’s as if he’s giving voice to feelings you’ve struggled to articulate. Whether you’re nursing a broken heart or simply reflecting on past love, “Setelah Kau Pergi” offers a sense of bittersweet solace. It’s the perfect companion for a quiet, rainy day or a chilly evening spent reflecting on love’s most painful yet oddly comforting side.
Mola Oddity – “pop-up Life feat. Duñe”
Mola Oddity may have written a song about the universal experience of living for the first time, but the group themselves are anything but ordinary. Their song “pop-up Life” was released on their album The Other Side of Hope earlier this year in March, and has gotten a new spin with singer and producer Duñe. While the song was quite groovy, the remix offers an abstract art pop take. It twists the retro and vibrant original into a dance track to be played and enjoyed with others. “Pop-up Life” refers to being pushed into this existence with no choice. It questions the meaning of reality and everyone’s individual views with the lingering question placed in the lyrics, “What is true for you?”
Rather than succumbing to the averageness of being a band. Mola Oddity are known as a “creative project.” As a group of travelers and world lovers, they describe themselves as being “from the islands of Taiwan and the grasslands of Inner Mongolia, drifting in Beijing.” As their self-description would suggest, this group transcends the specifics in life and rather, is a conglomeration of all things art.
grentperez – “2DK”
A completely fresh side to grentperez is shown off in his new single “2DK.” Earlier this year we saw a collaboration with Benny Sings for a cute upbeat love song “Fuzzy Feelings” and another with Lyn Lapid called “Room For You.” The new solo song takes on the challenge of capturing the silly, adventurous, and spontaneous actions of a youthful night. “2DK,” standing for 2 drunk kids, is a hip-hop and pop combination new to the typical sound of grentperez.
Though the instrumentals of the song are intricate and dynamic, its meaning is rather straightforward. Grentperez sings about meeting someone, getting drunk, and letting the night take them wherever it wants. The song consists of fun and quirky lyrics like, “What’s one too many drinks at the club gonna do?” and concludes with grentperez speaking to someone and admitting to all that came after the drinks. This track was released along with a music video that is just as modern and chill, featuring individual people smoothly dancing along to the music. As the song progresses, grentperez and the others either slowly couple up or enjoy swaying and feeling the music alone. Though the lyrics of “2DK” focuses on being with someone, this is definitely a song that can be enjoyed solo for the cool and hip feeling grentperez has created.
BALLISTIK BOYZ – “SAY IT”
Bringing high energy beats to a chill autumn are the BALLISTIK BOYZ with their new single “SAY IT.” This song is three and a half minutes of fun and bright vocals. Ahead of their concert on November 6, the group wanted to gift fans with a theme song for the amazing time they were going to have together. They released “SAY IT” two days before they took the stage at Nippon Budokan in Tokyo, Japan in hopes to also show their gratitude to fans who sold out the concert in just one minute.
“SAY IT” is full of love and acceptance as the seven boys sing lyrics like, “Let me hear your wish in a dazzling voice / Throw away your shyness it’s okay.” The song is full of energy and sounds like a ray of sunshine. The music video for “SAY IT” consists of the members taking on a day of work together with a vibrant background and hopeful faces. The chorus is full of bubbly dance moves as the group moves in perfect synchronization. While they are seen in work outfits in the beginning of the video, as it progresses, they are soon changed to all-denim outfits. For the final chorus, they are seen in clothing full of personality, showing their true colors and expressing their real style surrounded by beautiful flowers and scenery. This song comes after the release of their new track “7,” but they will be coming together in a soon-to-be-released EP on December 4.
VIVIZ – “Shhh!”
VIVIZ are embracing femininity and overflowing with confidence in their new song “Shhh!” from their fifth EP, VOYAGE. As the title track, “Shhh!” is one of five new songs from the EP and their first release since the three girls have returned from their world tour. After all of their success with their last title track, “MANIAC,” the comeback of VIVIZ was anticipated by many, and “Shhh!” certainly doesn’t disappoint. The song focuses on the wants of the girls, telling the boy in the song that they’ve heard enough of him talking of what he wants.
The chorus choreography is packed as the girls repeatedly sing “Boy, shhh” and dance along with a group of backup dancers in the music video. The visuals align the members and dancers in different satisfying formations as the song continues. VIVIZ finish off the verses of the chorus with the lyrics, “Think no more and kiss me now” and “Speak no more just feel me, ya.” “Shhh!” acts as an amazingly strong and sexy return to the music scene and sets VIVIZ apart from all other music being released. This song is catchy, the music video is visually appealing, and the individual voices and talents of the members each have a moment to shine.
Haven ft. Wild – “Mindset”
Haven, the rising star from Singapore, has just unveiled her latest R&B single, “Mindset,” an expressive track that captures the raw emotional landscape of navigating modern relationships. Building on the momentum of her previous hit, “No Hard Feelings,” which garnered over 6.5 million streams, this new release highlights Haven’s evolution as a songwriter and performer. With rich, soulful vocals and intricately woven lyrics, “Mindset” explores the struggle between love and confusion.
Throughout the track Haven reflects on the challenges of understanding her feelings amidst the chaos of intimacy. In “Mindset,” Haven croons “How am I supposed to know what’s real / Say I love you and I miss you / Why’s it gotta be an issue.” These lyrics resonate deeply and illustrate the push and pull of her emotions. The song’s captivating melody and Haven’s haunting vocals draw listeners into her world, where she confronts the notion that sometimes love is as much about mindset as it is about connection. “Mindset” is a powerful anthem for anyone entangled in the complexities of love, making it a solid addition to her evolving musical journey. As she prepares to release her highly anticipated EP in the second half of 2024, “Mindset” is poised to further establish Haven’s presence in the music industry and engage her ever-growing fan base.
Ari X – “Vibe”
Rising star Ari X has just released his latest single, “Vibe.” Although relatively new to the industry, Ari X showcases immense talent with this track, blending catchy melodies and relatable lyrics that invite listeners to soak in its uplifting energy. “Vibe” features an infectious hook and a rhythmic beat that perfectly encapsulates the essence of carefree moments and good times. It’s destined to become the anthem for your playlists this season. The imagery of “vibing in the clouds” paints a picture of blissful moments from the outside world, where lovers can lose themselves in each other’s presence.
The lyrics delve into intimate exploration, highlighting the emotional depth behind physical connection. Ari X’s carefree attitude shines through, encouraging listeners to let go of their insecurities and relish the shared moments that make love feel exhilarating and unique. This song not only celebrates romantic connections but also invites everyone to embrace the joy of being together, free from outside judgment. The vibrant energy of “Vibe” is sure to draw in new listeners and leave them wanting more. In addition to the single, Ari X has also released a captivating music video that complements the track’s lively spirit. Don’t miss out — be sure to give “Vibe” a listen and experience this exciting new gem in music!
rae – “silosis”
If you haven’t had the chance to dive into rae’s latest track, “silosis,” you’re truly missing out on a musical experience that goes beyond just sound. This song blends alternative styles, creating a lush atmosphere that perfectly complements his intricate lyrics. The production is a beautiful mix of smoothness and texture, immersing listeners from the very first note. You can feel rae’s artistry evolve with each beat, showcasing his ability to convey deep emotions and connect with his audience.
One of the most striking lines from the song is, “So tell me what am I supposed to do / Should I leave or should I stay with you.” These lyrics paint a vivid picture of a complex relationship filled with unreciprocated feelings — a theme that resonates deeply with many of us. It’s a touching reflection of rae’s journey and the trials we all face in love and connection. Following the immense success of his breakthrough track “idm.” featuring Elaine, rae has proven that he is not just about catchy tunes. He has this incredible gift for creating heartfelt connections through his honest reflections and emotional storytelling. So, if you’re looking for music that speaks to the soul, give “silosis” a listen.
