Diwali, the festival of lights, holds special significance for Hindus, Sikhs, Jains, and Buddhists across India and around the world. Celebrated by over a billion people both domestically and across the diaspora, it’s one of the biggest festivals in India. For five days, homes, businesses, and public spaces come alive with diyas (traditional oil lamps), while fireworks light up the night skies.
This extended public holiday is a time for families to gather, share sweets, exchange gifts, and enjoy precious moments together, often taking in the latest films at the theater. To mark the occasion, here are five new Indian movies releasing this Diwali that promise to captivate your heart with their stunning production and unique stories.
Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 (Labyrinth 3)
Following his breakout success in Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 (2022), Kartik Aaryan returns as Rooh Baba, the ghost hunter now tasked with capturing Manjulika’s (Vidya Balan) ghost. Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 brings a fresh twist with the addition of Triptii Dimri as Kitri Singh. While it takes a new direction from the storyline of the original Malayalam classic Manichitrathazhu (1993), this third installment is set to establish its own universe, promising a fully comedic experience with just the right touch of horror.
Singham Again
Singham Again marks the third chapter in the highly successful franchise. Inspired by the Ramayana, Rohit Shetty re-imagines his characters as iconic figures from the revered Hindu epic. Known as India’s largest cinematic cop universe, this film features an all-star cast, including Ranveer SIngh, Akshay Kumar and Deepika Padukone as police officers on a mission to rescue Avni Singham, played by Kareena Kapoor.
Brother
In this Tamil-language romantic comedy, Jayam Ravi stars as Karthik, a playful and yet-to-graduate law student who stirs up trouble both at home and beyond. Meanwhile, his older sister, Anandhi (Bhumika Chawla), is his complete opposite. Karthik’s inability to fit into her disciplined, orderly lifestyle begins to affect Anandhi’s marriage. Directed by Rajesh M., the film humorously explores the chaos Karthik creates as he pursues what he wants.
Bloody Beggar
Under the direction of M. Sivabalan, this dark comedy follows Kavin‘s sly character, a lazy beggar who finds himself entangled in a whirlwind of chaos among a group of wealthy individuals in a grand mansion. The trailer teases a captivating storyline packed with humor and surprising twists that promise to keep the audience laughing throughout.
Lucky Bhaskar
Dulquer Salmaan stars as Bhaskar, a middle-class banker who suddenly comes into a substantial inheritance. Rather than sharing the news with his family or celebrating, he decides to keep it under wraps. The film weaves a complex narrative, balancing emotional depth with thought-provoking insights into the challenges faced by middle-class families, while also delivering hope and inspiration in surprising ways. It’s a story that’s bound to leave a lasting impression on viewers.
Whether you are looking for romance, action, horror, or comedy, this year’s Diwali release rollout definitely has something to offer for everyone!
