The Poles – “Echo! (talk to me baby)”

The Poles are back and more upbeat than ever with “Echo! (talk to me baby).” It’s been a year and a half since their last release, Anomalies in the oddity space, and from the production to the personality of the beat, their new single is unlike anything they’ve ever dropped before. Made up of members Daniel Kim, Lee Hwangje, and Kim Kyungvae, The Poles are a group that is built on friendship and a love of rock music. “Echo! (talk to me baby)” freshly showcases this concept with an equally modern yet vintage music video

While known for their live performance videos of singles and their album, the group released their second music video alongside the release of the song. In the video, the trio can be seen watching themselves on an old television before trailing off into the dark with a flashlight. Exploring the unknown together, they soon pass through a curtain and unveil their individual instruments sitting in a soon-to-be-uncovered room. Everything the group brings with “Echo! (talk to me baby)” is nostalgic yet new and perfectly The Poles.

Emma Harner – “The Lake (ft. Henry Jamison)”

Slowing the pace is Boston-based singer-songwriter Emma Harner’s new single, “The Lake (ft. Henry Jamison).” Aligned with her signature acoustic sound, the song is retrospective, vulnerable, and intimate. “The Lake” is inspired by a lake near Harner’s hometown of Lincoln, Nebraska—but ultimately is a depiction of the lingering complexity of a love nearing its end. Vermont-based artist Henry Jamison offers up a new perspective to “The Lake” when he joins on the second verse.

“She [Harner] was working with my buddy Doug, who produced a lot of my third record, and they had made the song into this towering, incredibly moody thing,” Jamison shared about the collaboration in a press release. “I wrote my verse inspired by that atmosphere and tracked it with them in Brooklyn. Emma is a generational talent and I feel very lucky to work with her.”

Harner couldn’t be more appreciative of this collaboration, as she mused, “Henry’s voice gives the song a whole new perspective and flavor […] ‘The Lake’ is one of my favorites so far and I can’t wait for everyone to hear it.” This single amps up the anticipation for Harner’s upcoming US and European headline tour, slated to begin in early November.

DAYOUNG – “body”

WJSN’s lovable lead vocalist, DAYOUNG, keeps the summer vibes going with her solo debut, “body.” The infectious energy she is affectionately known for is translated in this pop dance track. DAYOUNG is full of confidence and smiles as she taps into her pop diva era. “Body” is a shoutout to that special someone in your life, and that irresistible attraction you feel when you’re with them. She sings in the upbeat chorus: “Put your body on my body / Won’t you come and make your move / Ain’t nobody, yeah just you / that can do it like you.”

DAYOUNG is already known for her strong vocal abilities, but “body” encapsulates her true capabilities as a soloist. She raps on the second verse, and her powerful choreography is spotlighted in the music video. If “body” has you craving more from DAYOUNG, her debut single, gonna love me, right?, also includes the tracks “number one rockstar” and “marry me.”

HAECHAN – “CRZY”

The wait is finally over—NCT’s HAECHAN made his highly anticipated solo debut on September 8 with TASTE, an 11-track album that favors the R&B days of his childhood in the mid-aughts. With his lead single, “CRZY,” HAECHAN lives out his Justin Timberlake dreams while putting his own spin on this pop and R&B rollercoaster. Harking back to Timberlake’s “Justified” era, the song is everything HAECHAN represents as a performer: smooth, sharp, clean, and irresistibly infectious.

Lyrically, “CRZY” is about feeling so physically attracted to someone that it’s suffocating, like just the presence of that person is enough to send you spiraling out of control. “Baby, I’m crazy / I think I’m sick, do you feel me? / I’m locked into your eyes, yeah,” HAECHAN sings in the chorus, his voice dripping with want. Considering the singer has cited Michael Jackson as his inspiration several times throughout his career, it’s no surprise that the music video sees the 25-year-old hitting multiple MJ-esque movements that he’s undoubtedly trained his whole life for. Between the crisp lines, razor-sharp footwork, and suave hip action, HAECHAN might just be crazy for thinking we’d all survive his solo debut era in one piece.

HANA – “BAD LOVE”

Japanese girl-group septet, HANA, continues to make a statement through their music with their new single, “BAD LOVE.” This track blends dark, trap beats with grunge rock elements to create an intense instrumental full of depth. This sonic framework pairs with the strong vocal belts that reach an emotional high during the chorus. “BAD LOVE” is a self-explanatory title as the members sing about the painful end of a relationship.

MAHINA kicks the song off and cuts right to the chase: “Want some time / Get out of my life / I smile to hide, saying I’m alright.” The song’s intensity is amplified further in the thrilling music video, where MAHINA dramatically rescues her members who are trapped around a warehouse. For those nights when you need to release your emotions and let it all out, “BAD LOVE” is the perfect escape.

Global icon BamBam is here to captivate audiences with the electrifying “ไม่มีใครสักคืน (Dancing By Myself) (Feat. TIMETHAI).” BamBam is no stranger to the game, first stepping onto the scene just shy of a decade ago with the acclaimed K-pop boy group, GOT7. After debuting as a soloist in 2021, he is ready to start a new chapter in his homebase of Thailand. The pre-release track, “ไม่มีใครสักคืน (Dancing By Myself)” is just a taste of what is to come from his upcoming first Thai album, HOMETOWN. “ไม่มีใครสักคืน (Dancing By Myself)” is a suave declaration of independence written and composed by BamBam himself. Driven by a nostalgic pop groove, the song showcases his matured artistry.

Thai singer-songwriter, TIMETHAI, hops on the second verse. TIMETHAI heightens the song’s celebratory atmosphere until the song’s end. In the music video, BamBam and TIMETHAI show their choreographed synchronicity in opposite colored suits—amplifying their distinct individuality, yet irresistible chemistry. HOMETOWN is set to release on October 10, but in the meantime, “ไม่มีใครสักคืน (Dancing By Myself)” is shaping up to be a heavy rotation staple!

PRYVT – “PALETTE”

Canadian-Korean duo, PRYVT, is teasing bits and pieces of their upcoming second studio album, BACK TO REALITY, and listeners have been gifted their second pre-release with “PALETTE.” The song is performed by both members, Sam Hanuel and Justin “JT” Tecson, and has been awarded the spot of lead single for their future album. The accompanying music video is bright with a positive message as it focuses on the togetherness and community that music brings. As street-goers pick up headphones placed randomly on the street on top of quirky chalk signs, they dance and let loose to the soulful and serene sound of PRYVT.

However, “PALETTE” is just a small taste of what PRYVT will be releasing on November 14 with BACK TO REALITY. In a press release, Hanuel said, “Moments are captured like Polaroids, freezing emotions exactly as they were felt in that instant. It’s this gut feeling that fuels our visual imagery, with intentional details woven into everything from the music videos to the album’s design.” With a focus on sharing lived experiences and turning moments into sound, their second album is going to be nothing short of a work of art.

elijah woods – “Slicked Back Hair”

Released ahead of his debut album Can We Talk?, “Slicked Back Hair” is a single as self-reflective as it is fun. The Los Angeles-based singer commented in a press release, “This song is about meeting someone who changes everything—the kind of person who turns you from a caterpillar into a butterfly.”

Over a guitar and drum-driven chorus, woods sings, “The type I tell you that ‘I love you’ then get up and leave / And I was in and I was out and never in between.” Throughout the song, he reminisces on his fickle and noncommittal behavior in the past while expressing his change for the one he loves later on. The bubbly tempoed dance track was previewed on his GIVE ME THE SUNLIGHT tour, and it is now available to listeners everywhere. If the sound of “Slicked Back Hair” puts a bit of pep in your step, be sure to tune in a month from now to the indie-singer’s debut album, Can We Talk? coming out October 14.

CORTIS – “FaSHioN”

After raving success in the past month with their songs “What You Want” and “GO!,” CORTIS have dropped their debut EP, COLOR OUTSIDE THE LINES. At the center lies their newest single, “FaSHioN,” a hip-hop track with harder elements and heavier rap than their previous releases. In a world where fast fashion clashes daily with the glamourized life of designer brands, CORTIS is showing that it’s not about what you wear, but how you wear it.

Within “FaSHioN” sits the Gen Z lifestyle of mixing and matching vintage and thrifted clothes to find individuality and expression. In the chorus, they rap, “My tee, 5 bucks / My pants, 10,000 won / My vision, billions / Trillions like Bezos.” Granted writing and choreography credits on the song as well, “FaSHioN” is as handcrafted as their thrifted outfits. The group of five is styling from Dongmyo to Hongdae, but with how well received their debut has been, the only place they’re going on the charts is up.
