The sky just isn’t high enough for A2O MAY. Eight months after their debut, the record-breaking quintet is back with their third digital single “B.B.B. (Bigger Badder Better)” featuring rookie group A2O LTG (Low Teen Girls). With a winning combination of dynamic choreography, cross-generational collaboration, and an infectious melody, “B.B.B.” is bursting with A2O MAY’s confident flair.
Hailing from Shanghai, Suzhou, and Hawaii, the group is composed of five members: CHENYU, SHIJIE, QUCHANG, MICHIE, and KAT. They debuted on December 20, 2024 with breakout single “Under My Skin,” later landing the highest-charting placement by a Chinese girl group with their official debut track “BOSS.” Now with two history-making releases behind them, A2O MAY has leaped forward once again with the sonic and visual innovation of “B.B.B.”
Blending Nostalgia and Futurism
“B.B.B.” promises and delivers an experience that keeps listeners on their toes. As soon as the song begins, we’re drawn in by the hypnotic instrumental hook that resembles a snake charmer’s melody. CHENYU’s rap kicks things off, her deep voice working in tandem with the heavy, pulsing bass. By the time QUCHANG arrives with vocal flips and belts leading into the pre-chorus, it’s clear that A2O MAY is a group of musical powerhouses. However, just as we anticipate a chorus that matches the soulful tone, A2O LTG step in with fast, higher-pitched vocals that channel the energy of a high school cheer.
Of course, a track like this calls for an equally exhilarating music video. Set in a lively school setting where A2O MAY are the stylish and popular seniors, the “B.B.B.” visuals invigorate nostalgic tropes with futuristic production. Charming callbacks to our grade school days — passing notes, hiding in lockers, pillow fights — intermingle with sharp choreography and brilliant transitions. During the second pre-chorus, A2O LTG make a stunning re-entrance as Madonna and two versions of Harley Quinn (Joker: Folie à Deux and Suicide Squad) armed with bubble guns. The young trio battle it out with their seniors in a dance room as mirror images of each other.
Near the end of the bridge, the setting changes once more as viewers watch A2O MAY cross a red carpet from the eyes of A2O LTG, who watch from the gallery. As the final chorus hits, both groups dance in a room lined with silver tinsel curtains and school banners. This final scene is cosmic — spotlights circle around them, onlookers cheer them on, and lights rain down the walls like meteor showers. The music video closes out with all eight combined members posing in the dance room, with the younger A2O LTG girls kneeling in front.
With its high-octane vocals to genre-bending instrumentals, “B.B.B.” is the sound of a new generation. Like a high-speed chase, listeners are always one step behind A2O MAY as they command our attention. From start to finish, it’s electric, inspired, and made to be replayed.
