Naïka – “BLESSINGS”

After releasing her single “BLOOM” in July, fans of Naïka have been eagerly waiting for new music, and now receive “BLESSINGS.” The French-Haitian singer is accepting all the good that is coming her way as she floats through the song. The silky sonic texture is complemented by her back-and-forth singing versus subtle rapping.

Moving into a lower register, Naïka raps in the bridge, “Got her finger on the trigger, she be so unpredictable / Locked in with what I can’t explain, something medicinal / I’m never on my, on my, on my, on my own.” Further solidifying this message, she sings about finding home in her soul because she is home in her soul. As the world continues to persevere against actions of hate, Naïka is shining a light on the blessings, starting with amplified self-worth and love. For those hoping for more Naïka, “BLESSINGS” was laid against “BLOOM” on Spotify, hinting at a possible larger collection of music being released soon.

The Two Lips – “play”

Have you ever had a bad best friend breakup? And was it worse than a romantic breakup? Exactly. The Two Lips understand, and they are here for you this week with “play.” Released alongside a dreamy party visualizer, Jewlz and Andrea are joined by their friends to sing about those they are no longer letting attend. Filmed with a retro flair, the official lyrics for the songs float along the bottom of the screen.

The highlight of the song comes post-chorus with a chant easy to sing along to and especially fun to yell aloud while dancing, and that’s exactly what they did. Before the song’s release, lucky fans of both The Two Lips and Malcolm Todd got to hear an early live version as they opened for the indie singer on part of his tour. While taking in the adoration of fans, they sang, “Bye bestie / Cry bestie / Tried Your Games / You’re too messy! / I played cool for too long / Now I’m done / I’m gone!” With the addition of cute choreography, viewers were hooked, and now listeners everywhere can be too! “Play” marks the duo’s third single of the summer, and it’s only up for the duo as they set off on part two of their Kiss & Tell tour. “Let it play!”

grentperez and HONNE – “folding chairs on the moon”

Our favorite grentperez’s silky sweet voice has joined forces this week with the English pop-electronic duo, HONNE, to produce the new single, “folding chairs on the moon.” The song came as a surprise and wasn’t revealed until a day before on Perez’s broadcast channel, but it is a perfect addition to his current back-to-back shows in the UK. Written earlier this year, the track was collaborated on in-person while Perez was visiting London, and to top it all off, he made the cover art himself.

The track is as galactic as they come, with a funky beat starting the song and continuously being added onto throughout the first verse. They sing through the song about spending time with the one they love, and watching the world pass by, quite literally, as they are watching from the moon. It isn’t until after the first chorus that HONNE enters vocally, and then, finally, for the second, they meet. The song ends as the listener slowly ascends with the sounds of space, finishing the surprise song that started autumn on quite a high note.

eaJ – “put it on me”

In a little over two minutes, eaJ delivers a masterclass in sonic storytelling with his newest single, “put it on me.” The track’s production is fairly simplistic, leaving space for the track’s story to be at the forefront. eaJ’s powerful vocals pair with a genre-defying beat to create an emotionally resonant track, sure to linger long after its end. “put it on me” primarily features a band-focused sound, yet it combines the strengths of alternative pop, R&B, and indie. The end result is a song that hits on those reflective nights tucked away at home, but just as hard on a booming festival stage.

“Hoping that I’m someone’s safe place, even if it means stepping into the storm,” eaJ said in a press release. “I wanted it to feel like a late-night conversation you never want to hang up from.” eaJ is not new to translating these vulnerable life moments into music. Now in his fifth year as a soloist, eaJ is ready to explore new territories and hone in on his craft.

ilham – “company”

Hypnotic and honest, ilham is here to captivate your heavy rotation! ilham’s latest single, “company,” embodies the bold attitude that shines throughout her discography. The track is off ilham’s EP, uhm… ok? — a musical exploration that blends addictive pop tunes with the sensuality and suaveness of R&B. The ten-track project is described in a press release as “a reflection of what happens when you’ve had enough. It’s for those who are done overthinking, done justifying their pain, and done trying to decode the nonsense.”

“Company” keeps up the theme of being direct in one’s feelings. ilham sings in the chorus: “When I need / When I need some company / I only mean one thing / Come through and see about me.” With a heavy fusion of synths and percussion, “company” makes for an irresistible mid-tempo dance track.

ONE OR EIGHT – “BET YOUR LIFE”

Armed with the tagline, “BET ON YOURSELF,” ONE OR EIGHT is ready to take on the world full-force with “BET YOUR LIFE.” This recent release delivers quintessential ONE OR EIGHT, combining the team’s Japanese heritage with elements of the West. “BET YOUR LIFE” is a continuation of ONE OR EIGHT’s “Anthem of Challenge” releases, which kicked off with their last release, “Young & Reckless.” More intense in sound and serious in tone, ONE OR EIGHT continue to demonstrate their versatility as blossoming artists. “BET YOUR LIFE” has a hip-hop foundation, but in true ONE OR EIGHT fashion, it incorporates rock and emo elements for an elevated sound.

“This song carries the strength of unshakable beliefs and an unbreakable spirit,” member RYOTA commented in a press release. “With lyrics like ‘you can bet your life’ and the Japanese line ‘絶対8になる未来 (a future that will definitely become 8),’ we’ve poured our passion straight into every word. It’s a powerful side of us you haven’t seen before.” This is only the beginning for this new era, as a music video is slated for release on September 26th, shortly to be followed by “ONE OR EIGHT DAY” on October 8th.

Issam Alnajjar – “ZAFFEH”

Music is nothing new to Jordanian-Palestinian artist Issam Alnajjar, but with every song he releases, it feels like hearing his music for the first time again. His newest single, “ZAFFEH,” comes after a year-long break from releasing music, but makes it feel like no time has passed at all. From beginning to end, “ZAFFEH” keeps its energy, and for good reason. The song is inspired by Arab wedding traditions shared across regions as well as the artist’s cultural background.

Bringing the song of celebration to the community, the music video for “ZAFFEH” is exactly what listeners can imagine it to be: a dance party that unifies everyone, no matter the age. With Alnajjar in the middle, the group gathers in a circle as individuals clap, jump, sway, and replace their worries with fun. The release of “ZAFFEH” only furthers Alnajjar’s mission of hope and perseverance that transcends cultural background and borders.

YUQI has a question for you: “What’s your M.O.?” The i-dle star just dropped her latest single “M.O.”, a boom-bap-inspired track filled with swagger and self-assurance. With her raspy vocals riding over laid-back beats and sharp hooks, she makes it clear: “Who you try to control? Never me.” Throughout the track, she turns confidence into a cool and grounded sound that’s unmistakably her own. Kenriz – “Masih Seperti Dulu”

Love never goes out of style, and neither does Kenriz’s sound! “Masih Seperti Dulu” has slow pop-rock vibes with a 2000s band energy that’s impossible to resist. Catchy guitar hooks ripple through the track, carried by Kenriz’s warm vocals that tug at the heartstrings. The lyrics capture that bittersweet ache of trying to keep love alive when the flame has dimmed. It’s a relatable track that tells a tale as old as time, yet still feels fresh.

The production leans into retro sounds without feeling stuck in the past as it pairs nostalgic riffs with fresh energy for a track that feels alive and immediate. The earthy, outdoor visuals in the official lyric video — sun-drenched hills, grassy fields, and big rocks — mirror the song’s grounded and heartfelt energy. “Masih Seperti Dulu” is the kind of song that lingers in your headphones, perfect for those moments when reveling in tender but quiet love.

Coline Creuzot – “Walk Away”

Coline Creuzot is back with “Walk Away,” and she’s turning heartbreak into an anthem you’ll want on repeat. The Houston-born R&B singer pours raw emotion into every note, capturing the moment when enough is finally enough. The retro-inspired production gives the track a timeless groove, while her harmonies make every moment feel fresh and intimate. The chorus is impossible not to sing along to and get stuck in your head, a perfect mix of catchiness and catharsis. Creuzot’s velvety vocals are filled with emotions as she sings, “Can’t you see all the pain that you’re causing me / You want me to stay, but you won’t change / Don’t act surprised when I walk away.” Coline continues to prove she’s a force to be reckoned with in R&B with “Walk Away.”

Leyla Ebrahimi – “nobody matters but You”

“Nobody matters but You” is both a crash-out and a healing session, and that’s why we love it. In her newest single, Leyla Ebrahimi breathes and sings through her reflection of a past relationship – all while trying to move on. With a vintage tone and a strong indie presence, “nobody matters but You” plays with a constant crackle throughout as if being a newly found, once lost tape. As the song builds, so does the sonic rage, until finally, after three minutes, it turns to a primal scream that can be internally felt and understood immediately.

“I am definitely going through something lol,” said Leyla in a press release. “My experience with love has changed a lot for me. I think losing this person in my life, while devastating, gave way to all this art. It’s poetry. It’s all the things I wish I had said. And all the things I would say now if given the chance.”

Jean Seizure – “i can’t even”

Photo courtesy of Modern Doberman and Jean Seizure.

Jean Seizure is back this week with her first EP, pov:. Featuring two prior releases, “you” and “why won’t you love me,” the EP walks through Seizure’s experience of heartbreak, self-reflection, and eventual clarity. The third track, “i can’t even,” is a soft emotional song wavering on a ballad, strengthened by the pain of unspoken love. The song gets its name from the painful realization expressed in the chorus: “I can’t even fight for your love / You don’t even know I’m right here.”

Creating complexities in her art, Jean Seizure paired the EP with physical artwork made by herself at different instances in the EP’s creation. Seen as the cover art for both this project and the pre-releases, the artwork captures these moments in time to offer listeners a dynamic experience, evoking a reaction from both sight and sound.
