The internet was set on fire when SM Entertainment announced their latest project: Girls on Top. Consisting of all women idols under the label, Girls On Top will release music in units. The first unit was GOT the beat. The star-studded lineup features seven members including BoA, Girls’ Generation’s Taeyeon and HYO, Red Velvet’s Seulgi and Wendy, and aespa’s KARINA and WINTER. Their teaser images in particular were widely loved by fans gaining hundreds of thousands of likes across social media platforms. To honor the debut of the group, I created four different makeup looks for GOT the beat.

A Look Inspired by Wendy and WINTER

This look was inspired by Wendy and WINTER. I wanted to highlight the glow that can be seen on Wendy’s eyes while also staying simple like WINTER’s teaser images. Both members are powerhouse vocals in their respective groups. As seen in the teaser images, the two members were both paired with each other sporting a bob cut. In honor of the members’ bright vocals, I decided to do a bright under-eye.

I filled in my eyebrows to be straight and lined the bottom with concealer. This look is about cleanliness and simplicity. After my brows, I used the Shop Violet Voss Best of Life palette to add some depth to my eye. With the shade “Cocktails,” I was able to create a gradient starting from the outer eye. The Pat Mcgrath Mothership VI palette is the perfect palette to create some shine on the eyes. To get a beautiful pigmented gold, the shade “Jubilee” is a great fit.

The main point of the look is the icy inner eye highlights. I accomplished this using “Astral White” from the Pat McGrath Mothership I palette. From there, the base can be flexible.

A Natural Face inspired by Seulgi and KARINA

Known for their incredible skill in dance, KARINA and Seulgi shine on stage. In contrast to their power on stage, they both rock their natural beauty. Inspired by Red Velvet’s Seulgi and aespa’s KARINA, this look is a no-makeup makeup look. In terms of KARINA, she has a very angular face with sharp features, while Seulgi has a piercing gaze.

To achieve this look, I began by making sure my skin was properly primed. I personally have oily skin so I opted for a matte primer. Using the Dior Backstage Face and Body Primer, I was able to begin the base for my foundation. After primer, I then lightly filled in my eyebrows with a Milani brow color. Less is more with this product. I still wanted my individual hairs to show on the brow so I was very light-handed in my use of color. Once I finish my brows, I then move onto my eyes. Using the Jackie Aina palette from ABH to create a shadow on my eye. The shades I used were “credit” and “edges.” Once my eyes were finished, I used mascara to give volume to my eyelashes and finished with foundation.

High Foils inspired by Taeyeon and HYO

Awed by their gorgeous eye looks, I wanted to create a stunning high foil look inspired by Taeyeon and HYO. Taeyeon is pictured with glitter on her bottom eyelids. Her nails also matched her eyes with a beautiful gold. HYO, who rocked fiery red hair in her own teaser photo, has a gold eye with graphic eyeliner. To begin the look, I primed my face and did my eyebrows. Since it is common amongst K-pop idols to sport straight eyebrows, I wanted to mimic that in my look. I used the Milani Brow Color to draw out a shape and fill in my eyebrows. After that, I worked on the eye look.

Using the Pat McGrath Mothership I and Mothership VI palettes, I used the shades “Pale Gold 002” and “Jubilee” on my eyes. I find that applying the shades with my hands looks better than a brush application. Using a NYX retractable liner, I made wings at the ends of my eyes. The wings were added to give depth to the eye.

I wanted to build off of the extravagant look of Taeyeon and HYO. I then lined my eyes with black eyeliner for contrast and finished the eyes with mascara and lashes. This look called for a bright under-eye. I used the YSL All Hours concealer to brighten my under-eye. Once I finished my base, I used the Pat McGrath shade “Pale Gold 002” to highlight my nose. For a bright shine, the Fenty Gloss Bomb offered a beautiful finish.

A Look with Edge Inspired by BoA

Inspired by BoA, this look used edges to highlight the black and silver elements within her teaser image. As BoA is the queen of K-pop, it’s only fitting to make sure this look was extravagant in nature. BoA’s teaser images contained silver chrome highlights and black. I wanted to incorporate this into her look. Taking a departure from the color scheme of the Girls On Top images, I decided to add purple because it is often associated with royalty.

This look was created by using the Pat McGrath Labs Mothership VI: Midnight Sun palette. Using Pat Mcgrath’s Astral Solstice and Blitz Violet Orchid, the eyes are given a stunning highlight. Also using Pat McGrath on the lower lid, the Dark Star created dimension for the under-eye.

To contrast, I used the ABH Alyssa Edwards Palette. The shade “Beast” is a black matte shade that was used to achieve this look. I then dotted the eyes with the NYX epic wear liquid liner. Going back to the inner eye, I used the Urban Decay heavy metal glitter gel in the color “Distortion.” To finalize the look, I used the NYX retractable liner to draw a white line under the eye.
