On October 12, 2021, Kim Yong-Hwa’s sci-fi feature film, The Moon, has finished filming. Starring Sol Kyung-Gu, EXO’s Do Kyung-Soo (D.O.), and Kim Hee-Ae, The Moon recounts the story of a man left alone in space following a space exploration accident (Do Kyungsoo), and a man on Earth wanting to see his safe return (Sol Kyung-Gu). The film has now shifted into post-production, though no release date has been set yet.

Star-Studded Cast & Crew

At the helm is director and screenwriter Kim Yong-Hwa, best known for his work on the box office hit Along With The Gods and its sequel, Along With The Gods: The Two Worlds, and the 2007 comedy 2000 Pounds Beauty. In the lead is veteran actor Sol Kyung-Gu, whose past best-known projects include the Public Enemy film series (2002-2005), Peppermint Candy (1999), Oasis (2002), Silmido (2003), Hope (2013), and The Merciless (2017).

Acting opposite Sol is K-pop idol turned bonafide actor, Do Kyungsoo–commonly known by his stage name, D.O. The Moon is Do’s ninth feature film, and his third with director Kim Yong-Hwa, as he played Private Won Dong-Yeon in both Kim’s Along With The Gods films. “I am so honored and grateful to be working with the wonderful staff on this project [The Moon],” Kyungsoo told Single List

A recent addition to the cast is seasoned actress Kim Hee-Ae. The actress, best known for her roles in Second to Last Love (2016) and Mrs. Cop (2015), will play opposite Kim Yong-Hwa and Do Kyungsoo as the head of NASA’s space station in the pursuit to rescue Kyungsoo’s character.

Following the completion of his mandatory military service earlier in 2020, Kyungsoo has stayed busy–after the release of his first solo mini-album, Empathy, the idol moved straight into filming for The Moon. A brief break was all he managed to squeeze in before he began shooting for Secret, where he will star as the lead in a romance about a piano prodigy and the mystery girl he falls for. Secret is a remake of a 2008 Taiwanese film that originally had megastar Jay Chou in the lead role.

With its star-studded cast and an acclaimed director at the helm, The Moon is set to be an emotional and provocative sci-fi film about Korean space exploration.
