Last December 2022, celebrity makeup artist Vittorio Masecchia launched his namesake brand with 576 face decals. Offering beauty lovers precision cut facewear, the brand pushes the boundaries of beauty, meshing elements of drag, the celestials, and cyber aesthetics. On a call with EnVi, Masecchia explained, “I didn’t want to continue to saturate the beauty industry in a way that I knew that wasn’t very me.”

The early 2020s saw the success of eye products that work well with masks. Graphic liners and rhinestones have all found their way to the feeds of many netizens. However, Vittorio Masecchia Beauty takes things a step further by formulating a line that is diverse in styles and beauty-forward.

Diving headfirst into beauty as a child, Vittorio Masecchia comes from a long line of talented makeup artists. He was tasked by his mother to do her makeup, which helped cement his love for it. Since then, he has flourished into a successful makeup artist with 20 years in the industry. Moving through Canada and America, he has worked for stars like Lizzo, Kesha, and Janelle Monáe.

Masecchia’s approach to makeup is one that bridges the gap between art and beauty, with a focus on innovation. Earning his stripes through the years, he realized that there was a large demand for beautiful makeup in a short time. Time was of the essence and he had to be prepared for anything. “Sometimes it’s like in the back of a car… on a landing plane or just like, right before you hit a red carpet.” He had to become — in his words — a ninja at creating flawless faces on his various celebrity clients. Vittorio Masecchia Beauty is a response to the need for quick and accessible makeup products.

A Line of Face Decals

Entering 2023, face decals are set to become all the rage. Coming off the 2020 and 2021 pandemic trends, Vittorio Masecchia Beauty boldly cements its space. As a brand owner, Masecchia realized he could have started with liners. Instead, he wanted to push the envelope and cater to a market that was in need of fresh products. It comes as no surprise that he got his hands wet with this launch. Every decal, every name, every color was formulated carefully by Masecchia, with the ultimate goal of feeling “like an artist with an exhibit in a museum.”

Style, however, wasn’t the only concern for Masecchia. In a report by the Environmental Working Group, it was found that 88 chemicals — linked to cancer and reproductive harm —  were used in over 73,000 cosmetic products. As of late, brands have made the move to safer beauty which has become prominent through online retailers. Sephora is an example of this as they highlight clean beauty brands on their marketplace. As a nod to this, Vittorio Masecchia Beauty face decals are latex-free and hypo-allergenic. Additionally, Masecchia went through strict processes to certify the safety of his own products in Europe.
Additionally, during EnVi’s testing, we found that the face decals can be re-worn. In the move toward sustainability, this ensures that consumers are not spending $18 on a product that can only be worn once. Upon opening packaging, decals were well-protected and removal was easy.

The Casillas

Priced at $18, ”The Casillas” is a cutting edge take on the popular liner look that Ernesto Casillas has done on Doja Cat. With enough product for the eye and brow, the design comes in 24 unique colors. The pro of Vittorio Masecchia beauty face decals is that they contain many pieces in one style. This allows for variety and user autonomy with the product. While testing the product, we found that smaller and thinner face decals like “The Casillas” work best on clean skin. It can be applied to make-up, but we recommend eyelash glue for longwear to ensure foundations or pigments do not stick to the decal.

The Plaster

Shaped as a bandaid, the plaster is an $18 multi-use decal that can work on the face and body. Masecchia revealed to EnVi that this was also one of his favorite styles. And for those who don’t care to wear products on their eyes, this comes in a clutch. While testing the product, “The Plaster” held up very well on the nose with and without makeup. This distinction is important as makeup can often make it hard for products like this to stay on the face. It must carefully be removed from its paper to ensure it will not become susceptible to damage. However, it is immensely durable and can withstand various contortions of the face.

Paying it Forward and the Future

A love letter to the queer community, Masecchia’s brand pulls inspiration from drag queens’ makeup. Drag as an art, a culture, and a community is unapologetic in its existence and the makeup artist nods at it with designs like  “THE FLAMETHROWER” and “THE HUNTER.” Explaining the different motifs behind these designs, Masecchia told EnVi, “It goes from like huge and drag-like which is a huge part of my love, like I love drag, I love gender f**kery.”

Similarly, Masecchia also pays close attention to the requests and suggestions of his consumers and supporters. “Right now I am also working on a part of the website that allows custom designs so people can submit or send in their inspo or imagery,” he anticipated. Since the launch of his brand, he has worked to offer his resources to those who cannot afford to realize their ideas. The ability to pay it forward and collaborate with his consumers shows an effort to usher them into his world of creation.

As of 2023, his brand is quickly picking up steam with influencers like visiblejune and Celine Bernaerts donning styles like “THE BEND AND SNAP” and “THE PINEAL.” It’s clear that with this launch, Masecchia is in a lane of his own.
