K-pop stars are on a fashion roll. From front rows to ambassadorships, these uber-popular celebs have been making headlines with their fashion activities. Following his appointment as Givenchy’s Global Ambassador, Taeyang is the latest K-pop idol to secure an association with a luxury brand.

A History of Givenchy and Taeyang

New partnerships between K-pop stars and fashion houses keep rolling out amid Men’s Fashion Week but they surprise no one. With strong ties to luxury brands and a powerful presence across media, many of these celebrities have been carving out a place as fashion power players for a long time. The most recent appointment of superstar Taeyang as Global Ambassador of Givenchy, however, is one that cements a longstanding friendship between the veteran idol and the LVMH-owned brand.

While in recent years, many fashion brands — especially those owned by LVMH and Kering — have made K-pop brand ambassadorships the move du jour when it comes to marketing, Taeyang’s history with Givenchy dates back to the 2010s. The singer, who rose to popularity as a member of the global sensation BIGBANG, was among the first K-pop stars to be recognized among fashion circles. Invited to Paris Fashion Week on several occasions, the singer was part of the cool crowd that popularized Givenchy’s revamped aesthetics in South Korea, during Ricardo Tisci’s tenure at Givenchy. Back in the day, Taeyang was also present at the brand’s shows in Paris and sported genuinely groundbreaking looks from the brand.

Givenchy’s Global Ambassador

Now, the immensely popular singer has sealed his friendship with Givenchy with an official appointment as a brand ambassador. Regarding the announcement, creative director Matthew Williams shared, “Taeyang is an inspiring artist — a music pioneer with an authentic, barrier-breaking way of expressing his own personal style.”

Taeyang added, “I am grateful to be able to start this new chapter of my life with Givenchy. It holds a special meaning to me, as Givenchy is a brand that has inspired me in many ways over the years. Matthew has also been a leader in both fashion and culture for many years. I look forward to the exciting ways to collaborate with Givenchy through this partnership.”

Taeyang Is Back!

Taeyang’s new team-up with Givenchy comes shortly after the release of his single, “Vibe,” which marked his long-awaited return after a hiatus from the stages. Set to attend Givenchy’s FW23 fashion show later this week, the South Korean powerhouse is kicking this new era in style — returning to the fashion circuit and proving his unfading influence.
